NFH presents breast cancer fundraising event to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Greater Atlanta Affiliate

North Fulton Hospital is looking ahead to breast cancer awareness month, planning for a large fundraising event benefitting Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Greater Atlanta Affiliate.  A program celebrating women, business, and survivorship, Power of Pink will take place on Friday, September 23, at the Country Club of Roswell, promising to be an event to remember.

“Many people are reminded of the importance of breast cancer awareness in October,” says Laura Rivers, MD, FACS, breast surgeon and medical director of the NFH Breast Program.  “Although events in October are very important, we’d like to celebrate survivors and their families and encourage prevention and screenings year-round.”

Power of Pink is a unique spin on a women’s networking event.  Hosted by North Fulton Hospital, Power of Pink will position the professional business women of North Fulton and surrounding areas alongside one another, providing the opportunity to enhance previously made connections and form new associations.   It’s about developing your business contacts and growing relationships.

But it’s also about so much more.

“We want the community to see how fully committed North Fulton Hospital is to the fight against breast cancer. We want them to realize what a wonderful resource they have located in their community,” says Micah Brown, RN, BSN, breast health nurse navigator at NFH.  “The more information we can get out to the community, the more people we can affect and hopefully help.”

Advances in NFH Cancer Care

In recent years, North Fulton Hospital has made significant strides in its Cancer Program.  This started with the addition of advanced technologies, including 3 Tesla MRI and digital mammography.  Later the hospital hired a breast nurse navigator to serve as the patient’s advocate, guiding them through each stage of the treatment process.

In 2009 NFH formed the Tumor Board.  Physicians from multiple specialties regularly meet for the Tumor Board, which is a forum for clinicians to collaborate on cancer cases, working together to decide upon appropriate treatment plans for each patient.

“This program is integrating all of the oncology services we already had here at the hospital in addition to some new services,” explains Lori Hall, NFH Director of Medical and Telemetry Services.  “From digital mammography to advanced 3T MRI to PET CT scans, North Fulton Hospital is prepared to help people from diagnosis through treatment.”
