First Annual Diabetes and Stroke Expo to Offer Life Saving Education and Free Screenings
North Fulton Regional Hospital – Roswell, GA – Did you know that individuals with heart disease due to atherosclerosis or who have diabetes have more than twice the risk of stroke than those who don’t? Or that many diabetes and stroke risk factors can be controlled? Or that anyone—not just the elderly—can have a stroke?
Join North Fulton Regional Hospital on Saturday, May 2 from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. for the first annual Diabetes and Stroke Expo. This event, which will take place in the classrooms and the main lobby of the hospital, will feature various, FREE health screenings, including:
- Fasting lipid panel (HDL, LDL, triglycerides, and glucose) – registration required
- Blood pressure
- BMI
- Foot
- Vision
The event will also include physician presentations and plenty of valuable information to educate you on how to prevent diabetes and stroke and also how to recognize the signs of stroke.
Chances are likely that sometime in our lives, we will be touched in some way by diabetes or stroke. Many of the risk factors for one also contribute to the incidence of the other, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, being overweight, and not engaging in enough physical activity. Thankfully, each of these risk factors can be controlled, helping us to potentially avoid such illnesses.
But what if we can’t avoid them? For stroke, there are specific, sudden, signs and symptoms that indicate a potential stroke. If you experience any of these sudden symptoms, call 9-1-1 immediately and get the emergency room as soon as possible:
- Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
- Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
- Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
- Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
- Sudden, severe headache with no known cause
