Food Drive Challenge Thrown at Verizon Wireless –

NFH employees prepare for big collection, to benefit North Fulton Community Charities

North Fulton Hospital prepares for its annual food drive for North Fulton Community Charities, kicking off on Tuesday, May 10th and running through May 20th.  This year’s drive is slightly different than in years past, however, as it involves a competition with another local business, Verizon Wireless.

Competition can be a powerful motivating force, especially when it is presented to such highly competitive individuals as North Fulton Hospital employees.  Each year the hospital conducts a food drive competition for North Fulton Community Charities.  Typically the hospital employees are divided into teams, competing against each other.  This year they are taking it to the streets…challenging Verizon Wireless to an organization-wide food drive challenge.

The 2010 NFH food drive effort resulted in 6,561 pounds of food and $6,138.70 in monetary donations collected.  NFH is prepared to surpass this amount this year, all for the sake of the challenge.

“These employees are competitive; there is no doubt about it,” said NFH CEO Debbie Keel.  “When it comes to a challenge, especially one where the beneficiary is such a valued organization in the community as NFCC, we are ready to go full force.  We plan on winning, hands down.”

This competitive spirit will certainly bode well for North Fulton Community Charities.  The need is high in the community, and NFCC does much to make a strong impact.  Without assistance from others, however, NFCC would not be able to provide the services it does.  Through this years competition, NFH and Verizon are in essence working together to ensure the food bank is full, that there are diapers and formula and other baby items on hand for clients, and that the pot of money is large enough to help community members pay their bills and stay in their homes.  It’s a large task…a task worth embracing.
