North Fulton Hospital's Surgical Services
The Surgical Services Department consists of nine operating room suites and an outpatient unit with 15 private room beds. Operating-room nurses, board-certified anesthesiologists and anesthetists provide 24-hour coverage for emergent and trauma patients who require surgery. PACU
The 18-bed Post Acute Care Unit (PACU) was designed to accommodate both the preparing of patients for surgery and their post-operative care. The space has been designed with a central nurses’ station with patient bays surrounding it, allowing the nurses to have direct visual and audio contact of the patients. All PACU/OPSU nurses have advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support certification.
Family Waiting Area
The family waiting room was place intentionally on an exterior wall with large expansive windows with views to the exterior environment to help connect waiting family members with the outdoors while waiting on their loves ones in surgery. Coffe machine, vending machine and televisions are provided for your comfort while you wait. There are three private consult rooms to confer with the surgeon after surgery.
Preparations
Before coming for any test or procedure, review the following information to ensure you are fully prepared:

The surgeon's office will provide instructions for the day of your procedure including the time you are to report to the pre-admission testing area which is located in the hospital’s main lobby.

A pre-operative packet of information will be given to all surgery patients when they visit the pre-admission testing nurse. Please bring any questions you may have with you.

Patients who require anesthesia will have a consult with an Anesthesiologist prior to their procedure.

It is important to plan for your discharge needs prior to your surgery.

All patients are to remain NPO (nothing by mouth) unless instructed differently pre-operatively by the Anesthesiologist or nurse. Take any medications ordered during your pre-operative visit the morning of surgery with a sip of water.

All patients being given any kind of sedation or anesthesia will need a responsible adult to drive them home after their procedure.

Please leave all valuables at home.

Patient will given discharge instructions and educational information regarding any medications ordered.
