Annual Prostate Cancer Screening

North Fulton Hospital to Host Its Annual Prostate Cancer Screening

Rudolph Giuliani, John Kerry and Bob Dole have more than one thing in common. Besides being presidential candidates, all three men have survived prostate cancer.  In an effort to encourage our community to perform preventative screenings for cancer, North Fulton Hospital, in partnership with members of its medical staff, will offer its annual free prostate cancer screenings.

“A prostate cancer screening helps find cancer at an early stage when treatment may be more effective,” says W. Glover Little, MD and Urologist with North Fulton Urology. “Treatment options for prostate cancer continue to evolve providing the patient with more options and better outcomes.”

The American Cancer Society recommends that men with no symptoms of prostate cancer, who are in good health, and have no family history of prostate cancer, begin talking with their doctor about prostate screenings at age 45.

However, if a man has risk factors that make prostate cancer more likely to appear, a physician may encourage an exam earlier.  Those risk factors include:

  • African-American heritage
  • Those who have a father, brother or son diagnosed with prostate cancer before age 65.
  • Men who have multiple family members diagnosed with the disease before age 65.

On Wednesday, September 14, North Fulton Hospital will host its annual free prostate cancer screenings beginning at 5:30 pm.  The screening includes a digital rectal exam (DRE) and prostate specific antigen (PSA) test.  Physicians assisting with the screening include Glover Little, MD and John Moseley, MD with North Fulton Urology and Radiation Oncologist, Henry Cline.  Registration is required and space is limited.  For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 770-751-2660.
