Get Back to Basics With Free Baby Safety Program
Joanna Stotter

Eat, sleep, cry…these are the primary activities of an infant. Very quickly, however, these little treasures develop into active members of the family with the ability to crawl at seemingly light speed and get into areas of the home that adults might not even notice. With these new additions to the family, it is imperative that new and expecting parents learn the basics of baby safety.

In this very vulnerable state, babies can be susceptible to harm if proper precautions are not taken. Little things such as locking the low-cabinet doors and investing in rounded-edge furniture can make a big difference when a baby enters a household. To help guide new and expecting parents in the right direction, North Fulton Regional Hospital and Harry’s Farmers Market will host Baby Safety: Back to Basics to encourage these families to get their minds back to a time when life was much simpler and the freedom of crawling meant as much as the freedom of getting a driver’s license—to look at safety from a baby’s perspective.

Attendees of Baby Safety: Back to Basics will enjoy hearing from a panel of pediatricians, each speaking on a different topic related to infant safety. Topics will include:

  • SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome)
  • Safety in the home
  • Car seat safety
  • Plastic bottles and sippy cups.

The physician presentations will run from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9 in the classrooms of North Fulton Regional Hospital. Attendees may also enjoy visiting the family and baby safety information tables beginning at 5 p.m. For our expecting parents, North Fulton Regional Hospital will also offer two maternity tours prior to and following the presentations, at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Each tour is free and will last approximately one hour.

Future seminars will feature topics such as diabetes and holiday eating, among others, and all of these programs will be offered at no cost. Join us for these free lectures and demonstrations with Harry’s Farmers Market chefs and product experts and North Fulton Regional Hospital clinical experts. Also look forward to the 2009 series: Whole Body, Whole Health: 2009 Seminar Series.

Registration for this free seminar and either of the maternity tours is required. For more information about Baby Safety: Back to Basics or to register for the event, call 770-751-2660, or visit www.northfultonregional.com/event, keyword “community calendar.” Register for the maternity tours by searching “women’s health.”
